Cities for all
This event is an introductory event on urbanism with a focus on practical solutions. It aims to raise awareness of the civil society members on the evolution of the cities, explore the theories of human oriented urban planning, intersection of Urban planning with Gender, Class, Race, Ethnicity, Age and other. We will also cover the digital aspects of the city and security. In the end, the participants will be trained on creating narratives around the topics and how to talk with wider masses about often tricky and triggering issues.
CityTech 101: Navigating Smart Urban Landscapes
This event offers a dive into the interplay of technological advancements, urban growth, and inclusion. This training introduces participants to the exploration of the interrelation between technology and our cities, highlighting the impact on digital rights, civic participation, governance and more. How do we ensure citizens’ digital rights are protected? How can technology foster inclusivity and improve governance in urban spaces? Through theoretical input with interactive discussions, excursions, simulations and case studies, we will navigate these crucial questions and envision a future where technology harmoniously blends with urban life, empowering cities and their residents alike.
Shaping Cities with Gender at the Forefront
This event explores the often-underseen intersection of gender and urban planning. Despite the rapid pace of urban changes, city governance can perpetuate gender stereotypes, inequities and vulnerabilities. From the role of urban design in either enhancing or compromising the safety of women and queer people to ensuring representation in urban governance and planning, this event challenges traditional urban narratives - majorly dominated by the white, middle aged or elderly, cisgender heterosexual men. Addressing the unique economic, mobility and service needs across gender and sexual spectrum, we aim to foster cities that are not only modern but also just, ensuring truly inclusive urban futures.
Tackling Economic and Climate Crisis through Urbanism
This event aims to explore with the participants the intersection of the Cities, Economics and Environment in depth. It starts with a thorough examination of each of the 3 pillars of the event, after which we will proceed with making the connection between the 3 pillars and how they affect each other. In the middle of the programe we will be concentrating on the concrete solutions for the challenges the world and the cities in particular are facing. We will cover the sustainable public transport infrastructure, degrowth, energy efficiency, sustainable housing, urban gardening and many more. Participants will experience innovative methodologies of urban planning and population involvement.
Community building and participatory city practices
This event aims to engage participants in an exploration of diverse practices and tools that foster community building and citizen engagement in decision-making processes in the city. Initially, the event will delve into the significance of local communities as a key element in establishing sustainable and secure cities, as well as direct non-violent urban actions. It will subsequently delve into the consideration of various community examples and their interconnected dynamics. We will explore how to establish housing cooperatives, urban gardens, solidarity kitchens and many more. Further, sessions will concentrate on a range of participatory practices concerning civic involvement in community life, allocation of budgetary resources and formulation of local policies. Drawing from global examples, we will review the strengths and weaknesses of these practices, paving the way for collaborative ideation about which strategies are most applicable for implementation within participants’ respective cities and exploration of their local communities.
Building resilient cities of tomorrow
This event aims to equip the participants with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills for creating a safe and resilient urban infrastructure. We will explore the basics of the issue, responsibilities of the city hall in maintaining and ensuring the safety, energy efficiency and cleanness of resources such as water, energy, waste and nature. Afterwards, we will talk about the passive heating, moisture control and physical resilience enhancements in diverse types of already existing buildings, as well as talk about the potential climate disasters that are on the horizon of our cities and how to combat them. We will cover sustainable transport infrastructure, water management systems and resource self sustainability. Last but not least, we will cover the safety in the city - from the Gender, digital and self defence perspectives.
